Students may undertake this course to develop skills and knowledge for a career in Health Administration, as an administrative worker in the health industry. On completing this course, you will become competent in a wide variety of administrative duties required to work in the health industry.

This course will be delivered over a maximum of 40 weeks. This includes a minimum 20 hours of classroom based student contact hours per week. Blended mode completion times will vary. There is a mandatory simulation workshop at an IHNA campus.

The course is provided through Face to Face or Online mode of delivery. It will be delivered over 610 hours including theory, self-paced structured e-learning, simulation training (120 hours) and 160 hours of work-based training/ professional experience placement (PEP).

Besides the above structured learning, students are advised that they will be required to do unstructured learning as assigned.

The simulation training is for review of the learning activities, practicing communication, work-based skills, management skills and to undertake other assessments e.g.: group presentation/individual presentation.

FACE TO FACE ON-CAMPUS:

Face to face delivery mode is available in a full-time and part-time delivery.
Full Time : 2 days/ week classes with simulation training and Professional experience placement.
Part Time : 1 day/ week classes with simulation training and Professional experience placement.

ONLINE:

Full fee Students : Online Theory with on-campus simulation training and Professional experience placement
International Students (Secondary course) : Online Theory with on-campus simulation training and Professional experience placement.
Students currently working in the industry/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) : Online Theory with on-campus simulation training and Professional experience placement.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

There are no pre-requisites or any other training package entry requirements for this course.

ADMISSION CRITERIA:

IHNA has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its 'Application and Enrolment Procedure for VET Courses' to ensure that candidates meet industry requirements.

  • Applicants are required to be 18 years old and above and need to be Secondary School year 10 pass,
    OR
  • Be of mature age which can be demonstrated by a candidate who is at least of 21 years and has a qualification at Certificate II level or higher, OR has 2 years industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication

In addition, all the applicants are required to have successfully completed an ACSF test and demonstrate competence as working at Level 3 for all indicators to enrol for this qualification (issued within the last 12 months from the time of admission).
It is also essential for the student to possess basic computer skills.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS (PEP):

The Professional Experience Placements will be 5 days a week. Students may be allocated a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) shifts. Morning shifts usually start at 7 am and evening shifts can finish at 10.30pm. Each shift is 8.5 hours long (including 30 mins meal break).

PEPs are undertaken in partnership with a wide range of placement providers. These providers are located throughout metropolitan, regional and rural areas, and in some cases interstate. Students must consider that they may be required to travel or relocate for the duration of the placement to the facility location. Students must attend as per schedule; no special arrangements or changes will be made on the allocated placements. PEPs may be cancelled without prior notice by the facility.

Additional Requirement for professional experience placement:

  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance / Australian Federal Police Clearance Certificate (AFP)/ NCC will be required for all PEPs.
  • IHNA highly recommends students to complete the immunization process before the Professional Experience Placement start date as some facilities will not provide placement to student without immunisation.

Physical requirements

While IHNA will work with you to make "reasonable adjustments" in the campus lab and classroom, there are work place practice conditions that occur in the workplace environment that are beyond IHNA's control.

The physical requirements below are necessary to function in the healthcare facility and/or community setting. Students must be able to perform and complete course objectives and requirements with or without reasonable adjustments. Our courses cater to a range of candidates. The candidates are required to be physically fit to manage tasks.

Skills and abilities that are needed to perform client care to pass the course objectives and requirements are:

  • Strength : Sufficient to assist with lifting and transferring a client, and perform CPR
  • Mobility : Sufficient mobility to bend, stoop, and bend down to the floor; ability to move around rapidly; and to move in small, confined areas.
  • Hearing : Sufficient to hear through the stethoscope to discriminate sounds; to hear cries for help; to hear alarms on equipment and emergency signals; and various overhead pages.
  • Vision : Sufficient to make physical assessments of client and equipment.
  • Communication : Able to communicate in both verbal and written formats; and interact with clients, staff, and faculty supervisors.

Assessment strategies are implemented for collecting evidence and making judgements about whether competency has been achieved by the learner.

The assessments confirm whether an individual can perform to the standards expected in the workplace, as expressed in the relevant endorsed unit of competency.

  • Professional Experience Placement (PEP) Book
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is about the skills and knowledge you’ve gained through work and life experiences, no matter how, when or where the learning occurred. We acknowledge your previous achievement of competencies or learning outcomes that may count towards your qualification. RPL acknowledges that people learn in many different ways and that learning may have been obtained through:

• Formal learning – which takes place within an institution, such as in a school system, college or at TAFE, and is formally recognised with grades, diplomas or certificates;
• Informal learning – occurs in a variety of places, such as at home, work, and through daily interactions and relationships with members of society;
• Non-formal learning – you had a formal learning environment, but is not formally recognised within a curriculum or syllabus framework (e.g. from workshops, short courses, seminars, community or interest-based courses, conferences);
• A mix of the above.


This recognition process is evidenced in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and could provide you with a full or partial qualification and avoid duplication of training. You may be able to complete your course faster through recognition of your previous study, work skills and past experience as credits towards completion of your course. Some of our courses also have recognised study pathways, making learning more accessible. Applications for RPL can be made prior to enrolling.

HOW ARE MY SKILLS ASSESSED?

Your skills will be assessed against industry standards. This is done by an RPL assessor. You may be asked to:

• Perform tasks or jobs
• Talk about and explain how you do those jobs (through a structured interview process)
• Provide evidence of your work
• A visit to your workplace may be organised so you can demonstrate your abilities. You may have to provide job descriptions, references or documented evidence of performance appraisals.
• The assessor will consider your skills and knowledge and match them against a suitable qualification.


OVERSEAS QUALIFICATIONS

If your qualifications, training or skills were gained outside Australia, you might be able to get recognition for your skills or qualifications to determine your eligibility to gain credit for the intended course of study. We can initiate this process on the available courses for which RPL is applicable.

APPLICATIONS FOR RPL

If you intend on applying for RPL:

  • Please request the RPL application by contacting our admission officers directly on 1800 22 52 83 or email enquiry@ihna.edu.au state your request.
  • Carefully read the information contained within the RPL Student Guide.
  • Send your RPL application to our Admissions Officer using the RPL Student Information Form (fully complete all sections).
  • Collate copies of all required documents to be used as evidence of your prior learning/experience.
  • Attach these documents to your application.
  • Submit the Application Form and documented evidence via email to enquiry@ihna.edu.au
  • There is an application Fee of AUD$200.00 to conduct the RPL assessment and evaluation.

CREDIT TRANSFER (CT)

Applicants for Credit Transfer must complete the credit transfer application form, attach a copy of a verified Award or Statement of Attainment and submit the application to the Course Coordinator. The Course Coordinator must check the Award or Statement of Attainment and grant Credit Transfer for identical units that have been identified as being completed at another Registered Training Organisation. Verified copies of Qualifications and Statements of Attainment used as the basis for granting Credit Transfer must be placed in the student files. The student and the Course Coordinator must sign the completed Credit Transfer record. Granting of Credit Transfer must be recorded as a unit outcome in the student's file. Student’s individual training plans will be adjusted to reflect any Credit Transfer granted. Credit Transfer does not attract a fee.

The total tuition cost for the HLT37315 - Certificate III in Health Administration is AUD $2,500 for domestic students.

Enrolling in this qualification and availing the relevant state funding, may affect student's future training options and the eligibility for further government subsidised training.


Students eligible and opting for government funding must attend 20 hours of classroom sessions per week. Students failing to attend the classroom sessions will not be able to avail the funding and will be required to pay the full course fees.
